Le Blanc De Chanel Multi-Use Illuminating Base Review

I picked up the Le Blanc De Chanel Multi-Use Illuminating Base about two weeks ago in Boots. Link! I have dry, sensitive skin so I'm always on the hunt for products that will brighten my complexion - making it look more radiant and hydrated. And since I had heard really good things about this base and am a self confessed Chanel addict, I decided to give it a go!

This base promises to instantly light up your complexion, giving immediate radiance. It's supposed to reduce and diminish the appearance of pores and provide a moisturised, even finish to the skin, so I hoped it would do wonders for my skin.
The base itself is a light (quite runny) white liquid, as the name suggests. It sinks straight into the my skin and leaves a velvet smooth finish.
The packaging feels very luxurious, it comes in a heavy matte glass bottle - which has recently been repackaged and now comes with a pump. I have discovered that a full pump is really too much to use. The first time I tried it I used one pump, and it balled up a little on my skin. If I use a three quarters of a pump this doesn't happen.

One of the first things I noticed about this product was its amazing scent - it's the same as the Chanel skincare range. It reminds my of a light, clean baby powder scent.
I used both of my trustee favourite foundations (YSL Le Teinte Touche Eclait & Bourjois Healthy Mix) when trying out this base on a few different occasions.
Unfortunately I was really disappointed in the performance of this product. Instead of leaving my skin bright and illuminated, it made my skin really dry - which meant my foundation look patchy throughout the day. It also broke my skin out: I noticed that tiny bumps appeared under my skin as well as a couple of hives. In short, my skin completely freaked out.
I used Chanel skincare a few years ago, and as far as I can remember I had no reaction to any of the products - so I didn't think there would be a problem with this base. I've also used a lot of Chanel makeup products over the years with no problems. The only other Chanel product I've reacted to was the Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel. But it was nothing like this.

I am so disappointed that this base did not work with my skin - I really wanted to like it. I don't know whether the fact that it made my skin crazy dry and patchy was part of the allergic reaction, or if it's just not suitable for dry skin. Either way unfortunately I can't recommend this product. As it didn't do anything (on me) that it promised. The only claim I cannot attest to is reduction of pores as I don't have large visible pores.

  2. It's such a shame that it didn't work and you had such a bad reaction! I like this but I rarely use it, mostly because without a pump is too unpractical to use... But I have to say that if I wear Chanel foundations for more than a couple of days in a row I get a slight reaction too. xx
