2014 Beauty Favourites

2014 Beauty Favourites
2014 Beauty Favourites
This post is a really late but I decided to put it up anyway. If you have been reading my blog over the last year, a lot of these products will be familiar to you. I really tried to narrow down the list but I still ended up with a long list. There are a few products here that I've loved for years but I discovered the majority of them throughout 2014.

I had a hard time narrowing down the list of lipsticks I've been loved throughout the year. However, these four were definitely my most worn.
MAC Syrup- I have been using this shade for years It is the perfect eveyday neutral for Autumn/Winter. It is a mauve toned pink shade - it is a lustre formula which means it applies somewhat sheer on the lips but feels very moisturising and comfortable. Check out a more detailed post I did here for close up photos and swatches.
Bite Beauty Lipstick in Violet- This is a bright purple shade with a pink undertone. It is opaque, moisturising and lasts about four hours on the lips. I picked this lipstick up in Sephora when I went to Vegas in March last year. I wore this alot in the Spring and Summer. Unfortunately, Bite Beauty lip products are only available in the US and Canada. However, Sephora now will deliver to Ireland through Parcel Motel. Check out the detailed review I did on the Bite Beauty lipsticks here .
Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Dynamic- The pure color envy lipsticks were released in 2014. They have a beautiful texture - they're opaque, very creamy and feel moisturising and comfortable on the lips. The Shade I have is Dynamic - it is a warm toned neutral shade. Check out what it looks like when applied here.
Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipsick 107- I picked this up around the beginning of September - it is a pinky red shade. Although it's supposed to be matte,  I have found it does dry completely matte on me. It is pigmented lasts again for about two hours before I have to touch up. It is really comfortable to wear and doesn't dry out my lips. Check out the look I created here to see what this shade looks like when applied. I love everything about it - the colour the texture and the formula!

Nars Lovejoy Blush- I picked this up while in Vegas last year. It is a very warm bronze shade, with lots of gold micro shimmer through it. It has a beautiful smooth texture, applies evenly and lasts 8 hours or more on my skin. I have worn this consistently throughout the year. It helps to bronze and warm up the skin in Summer and adds definition and depth to the skin throughout the rest of the year.
Nars Doucer- I've had this blush for years, and particularly love to use it in Autumn/Winter. It is a dusty pink shade with a warm beige undertone. There is a tiniest amount of shimmer in the pan, however it doesn't seem to transfer to the face when applied. Again it has a beautiful texture, applies evenly and lasts 8-9 hours on the skin. Check out the post I did here to see what it looks like when applied. You can see close ups and swatches here.
Makeup Geek Blushes- I love their range of blushes rather then a particular shade, of which I have three. I got these around the end of September last year. It was love at first sight: the colours are beautiful, they have a soft smooth texture, apply evenly and last upwards of 8 hours. Makeup Geek provide a wide range of blush shades as well as finishes. Check out my full detailed review of these here.
Anastasia Beverley Hills Fawn Contour Powder- I ordered the contour kit from Cult Beauty in June last year. Fawn is by far my favourite shade in the palette. It is a matte powder with a strong grey undertone, which is ideal for creating shadows giving a more sculpted look to my face. Check out the full review of the Anastasia contour kit here.
Nars Ita Brush- I love using this brush to contour my face - it allows me to precisely apply contour powder in the hollows on my face, while still enabling me to blend it out nicely. Check out my detailed review of this brush here.
Chanel Les Beige Light Harmony No2- I picked up this three tone bronzer in June of last year (I think it was limited edition). I absolutely love it and have more or less used it daily since I got it. Check out my full review here.
Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Peach Pop-  This peach blush has an incredible formula. Although it is a powder blush, it is not at all powdery (it almost feels like a cream), it goes on smoothly and lasts for about 8 hours before it starts to fade. Although there is no glitter or shimmer in this blush, it has a slight sheen when applied. Check out my detailed reivew of this blush here.

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette- This was released last year and I picked it up in February. I absolutely love the matte shades in this palette - in particular the four warmer toned ones on the bottom left. These shades have a velvety smooth texture, they are incredibly blendable and last all day. Check out the detailed review I did on this palette here.
Marc Jacobs Lolita Palette- I got this palette towards the end of 2013. I can create an everyday neural look or a more glam smokey eye with this palette. The shadows are gorgeous: they are very pigmented, apply smoothly and blend beautifully. Check out my review of the palette here.
Makeup Geek Eyeshadows-  I bought these shadows last February and have used them consistantly ever since. They are pigmented, soft, blendable shadows, and last all day. Check out my detailed review of these here.

Nars Pro Prime Eyeshadow Base- This is the only eyeshadow base I've used all year. Once I put this on, the shadows I put on top last until I remove them at the end of the day. I've also found that it makes shadows appear more vibrant.
Boujois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara- I discovered this mascara about 6 months ago and I've been so  impressed with it (I'm on my second tube of it). It lengthens, separates and volumizes and it doesn't flake or smudge. I know you're only meant to use a mascara for 12 weeks, but I got about 17 weeks out of my first tube before it started to dry up. Check my detailed review of this mascara here.
Anastasia Brow Wiz in Brunette- This was another Vegas purchase, I picked it up in the shade brunette. I have since used the shade soft brown and have come to the conculsion that brunette is my perfect shade. I nearly finished my second pencil (my first one lasted me about 5 months). There is a menchinal retractable pencil on one end and a spoolie on the other. The pencil has a nice fine tip
(although I have found that it is not fine enough to draw on individual brow hairs). I like to fill in any gaps in my eyebrows with the pencil, then brush my brows though with the spoolie to soften the colour and make sure there are no harsh defined lines. The pencil itself has a slightly dry formula which I like because it means your brow hairs don't clump together.
Collection Extreme 24hr Felt Tip Eyeliner- This has a sturdy nib on it (much like a marker), which I find gives me better control then a really long tapered nib. I can draw a thick line using the side of the nib or a thin line using the tip of the nib. It lasts all day and does not smudge!

(From top): YSL Le Teinte Touche Eclait Foundation, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer, Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation.
YSL Le Teinte Touche Eclait Foundation in BD20 - I have loved this foundation for years now. It's light weight yet gives really nice coverage, while still managing to leave my skin looking quite glowy. It is definitely my all time favourite foundation. Check out the beauty look I created using this foundation here.
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla- This was another Vegas purchase. I like to use this to cover my dark circles and to brighten my under eye area. When I first got this concealer I found it to be quiet creamy and lightweight as its name suggests, however as time has gone on it definitely has dried out a little. I am still using the first tube of it which is almost gone.
Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in 010 Ivory- I've been using this a for a few months now (alternating between this and the Nars creamy concealer). I really like this concealer, it has a creamy light weight texture - and it both covers dark circles and brightens the under eye area. It really does rival the Nars creamy concealer, and at a fraction of the price it's absolutely worth trying it out. I like to blend out both concealers with the Real Techniques contour brush.
Bourjois Healthy Mix Radiance Reveal Foundation - I discovered this foundation about six months ago. I really like the coverage and finish it gives to my skin. It covers everything I want it to cover while leaving a dewy finish on the skin. While it's not quite the same as the YSL le teinte touche eclait foundation, it is very similar. The only real difference is that the Boujois foundation has a slightly thicker texture. Check out my detailed review here and see what the foundation looks like when applied here.

(Top): Essie Merino Cool, (Bottom): Essie After School Boy Blazer.
Essie Merino Cool- This is a muddy taupe colour  with a purple undertone, and has no glitter or shimmer in it (I wear this colour all year round). Essie polishes are very easy to apply and the brushes are really wide, meaning that they do not go streaky and that the nail is covered in two strokes of the brush. The polishes are opaque in 2 coats, they dry quickly and last 3 days without chipping (nail polish chips on me very quickly, no matter what one I use). They have quite a shiny finish - however I like to use Seche Vite top coat to help them dry even quicker and it just amps up the shine a little more.
Essie After School Boy Blazer- This is a dark navy blue colour. Again, it has no glitter or shimmer in it. I especially love wearing this in the Autumn and Winter months.
(Clockwise): Bioderma Atoderm Gentle Shower Gel, Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm, L'Oreal Ever Sleek Shampoo, Josie Maran Milk Treatment, Bioderma Atoderm Moisturiser, Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream.
(Clockwise): Bioderma Atoderm Gentle Shower Gel, Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm, L'Oreal Ever Sleek Shampoo, Josie Maran Milk Treatment, Bioderma Atoderm Moisturiser, Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream.
Biodrema Atoderm Gentle Shower Gel- This has been the only shower gel I've used since I got it in May. It cleanses, softens and calms my skin and has a very light clean scent.
Bioderma Atoderm Moisturiser-  This is for dry/very dry skin, it is very moisturising and has a light texture that absorbs quite nicely into the skin. It is fragance and paraben free. I have extremely sensitive skin which both the shower gel and moisturiser definitely help to calm and soothe.  Check out my detailed review of both the shower gel and moisturiser here.
Emma Harde Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm- I have been using this for a few years now, and have used 3 full tubes of it over the years. It is by far my favourite cleanser. It is packed with vitamins and antioxidants which help to hydrate and brighten the skin. Check out my skin care post here for more detail.
Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream- This moisturiser has a light texture, but leaves my skin feeling deeply moisturized with almost a velvety feel to it.
Josie Maran Treatment Milk- This was another Vegas purchase. It is a milk treatment infused with argan oil. I apply two drops to my face as the last step of my night skin care routine. It has a milky texture but when massaged into the skin, there is a deeply moisturising oil texture to it as well. Even though it is quite oily it does absorb into the skin nicely. In saying this I find that there is still a slight film left on my skin, which is why I only apply it at night.
L'Oreal Ever Sleek Shampoo- This is a sulfate free shampoo. It has the typical L'Oreal shampoo scent to it and lathers up like a regular shampoo would. This is surprising because SLS (sulfates) are the form agents normally used in products to enable them to lather. Although this shampoo states it is for frizzy, overworked hair  - of which mine is neither (I have fine hair but lots of it) -I have found that my hair is left shiny and is not weighed down at all.
